Report: Welcome Event for New International Students "Kyoto Walking Tour ~Ohara~" (presented by SIED)

Updated Nov. 8, 2017
On the 28th of October 2017, Saturday, SIED held “Kyoto Walking Tour ~Ohara~,” a welcome event for new international students. 14 students including 10 international students participated in this event and visited Ohara, a place located a little far from the Kyoto main city.
Upon arriving Ohara, the participants first visited Jakkou-in temple where they climbed the stone steps that are famous for their fall foliage and listened to the history of the temple related to the “Heike Monogatari” or The Tale of Heike.
For lunch, they had the delicious Ohara-famous “Yuba (tofu skin)" in soba noodle or warm donburi, along with another Ohara-famous "shichimi (seven spice)."
After lunch, the students headed to Sanzen-in temple. At Sanzen-in temple, the participants took many pictures of the thick moss field out of which the cute “warabe jizou” (laughing monk statues) peeked out.
Though it was raining throughout the day, it made the greenery in Ohara stand out. The newly entered international students were having fun with their new friends, while at the same time, they were also able to see and feel the charm of the Kyoto’s countryside.
SID will be holding many different kinds of events in this semester. We look forward to your participation!
