Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship Students or Students with Another Scholarship Who Are Applying to Undergraduate/Graduate Programs

Doshisha University [accepts][is accepting] students on a MEXT (Monbukagakusho) scholarship or other scholarships.

For recipients of the MEXT scholarship

According to the Monbukagakusho, only applicants who have passed the preliminary selection examination (conducted at the Japanese Embassy / Consulate General) are eligible to apply to a university for a letter of acceptance. Applicants who have passed the above-mentioned examination and who have received the certificate can apply to Doshisha University by sending the following items:
  • Copy of the “Passing Certificate of the Preliminary Selection Examination”
  • Copy of the MEXT scholarship application
  • One letter of recommendation (original)
  • Copies of the Transcripts of Grades of the current / last university (off all years) bearing an official stamp / seal of the university.
  • Copy of a certificate of highest academic attainment
  • Verification of the applicant’s Japanese proficiency level. Applicants who have taken the JLPT must submit a copy of their test result. Other applicants must submit the prescribed form for “Proficiency in Japanese”. (PDF)
  • Detailed research plan on the proposed research at Doshisha University
  • Applicants who are applying to the doctoral degree program need to submit a summary of their master's degree thesis/dissertation.
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport

All information can be sent via email (with attachments in either JPEG or PDF format) to the Center for Japanese Language and Culture at ji-nbn@mail.doshisha.ac.jp

For recipients of other scholarships

  • Doshisha University application form (original)
  • Certificate confirming the scholarship (original or certified copy)
  • One letter of recommendation (original)
  • Copies of the Transcripts of Grades of the current/last university (off all years) bearing an official stamp/seal of the university.
  • Copy of a certificate of the highest academic attainment
  • Verification of the applicant’s Japanese proficiency level. Applicants who have taken the JLPT test must submit a copy of their test result. Other applicants must submit the prescribed form for “Proficiency in Japanese”. (PDF)
