Summer Session 2009 : Program Outline

Summer Session 2009

Welcome to the Summer Session of Doshisha University!
The Summer Session is a short-term Japanese Language Summer Program open to participants from around the world. The Summer Session offers Japanese Language courses, and also includes excursions to Kyoto’s most renowned temples and shrines and gives students the chance to experience first-hand traditional Japanese cultures such a tea ceremony or flower arrangement. The Summer Session has been successfully held annually since 2006.

Doshisha University itself is one of the most prominent private universities in Japan with a long and proud tradition. It is located in Kyoto, which is renowned as the ancient capital where the traditional cultures representing Japan have been preserved. Our campus is in the middle of two prominent historical sites, the Imperial Palace, which preserves the atmosphere of the Heian dynasty, and Shoku-Ji temple, which inherits the Zen culture. On the campus are Western-style brick buildings of the New England Style that have been designated as national cultural heritage monuments. In such a rich environment Doshisha will provide throughout the Summer Session Japanese language courses on various levels and a wide range of Japanese culture studies. As you can see, the Doshisha Summer Session will provide the unique education that you cannot expect in other cities or universities. We are looking forward to seeing you at Doshisha.
