About the Graduate School of Commerce
Internationalization and advances in information technology have fostered a dramatic transformation of traditional economic systems and given birth to new business models that transcend all past categorizations.
The Graduate School of Commerce strives to develop human resources that are capable of harnessing advanced knowledge, on that basis precisely analyzing trends in industrial societies marked by dramatic change and uncertainty, and crafting solutions to the many problems engendered by a changing economic environment.
The graduate school has a master's program as well as a doctoral program. The Faculty of Commerce strives to equip undergraduate students with the fundamentals of specialized business knowledge and powers of broad insight. The graduate program has endeavored to meet the demands and expectations of those students interested in pursuing research on specific themes at a deeper level.
Researcher Education
The master's program offers advanced, professional knowledge backed by broad-ranging perspectives and insights. The doctoral program is designed to equip all doctoral students with research skills as independent researchers. Doctorate diplomas are awarded through a stringent degree acquisition process. To date, we have placed many outstanding researchers into university and research institute positions throughout Japan.
With a faculty of highly qualified professors specialized in fields ranging from commerce, finance and distribution to trade, management, and accounting, the school is pursuing cutting-edge research on economic and corporate management in an age of turbulence fueled by progressive globalization and the spread of information technology. The fruits of our research are immediately applied for instructional purposes at the doctoral level of study and utilized for master's level lectures and seminars as well.
Specialist Education
In addition to training researchers through the master's and doctoral programs, the Graduate School of Commerce also prepares students in the master's program for immediate service to society upon graduation by equipping them with advanced, specialized knowledge and also provides advanced retraining opportunities for individuals already active in the business world. Our graduates now serve society in many professional endeavors, including roles as managers, small and medium enterprise management consultants, certified public accountants, tax accountants, investment managers, and as staff members affiliated with international organizations.
School Features and the Entrance Examination
The Graduate School of Commerce strives to enhance the research skills illustrated in the diagram below by providing a setting that allows students with shared interests in future careers as researchers or business specialists to interact with and mutually stimulate one another. Additionally, we are flexible in accommodating students with their choice of career tracks. To that end, our curriculum has been systematically designed to provide students a wide selection of courses in fundamental as well as applied topics, including seminars on basic and specialized themes. Further, the curriculum may be expanded as necessary to accommodate interest in topics of current social importance.
We have a guest instructor program that offers students opportunities for learning under the instruction of CPAs and other experienced professionals from various fields. In addition, we have a curriculum staffed with invited renowned economists, scholars, and corporate businesspersons that present workshops and seminars on the latest business trends.
We also have an advisory staff framework that ensures students access to timely advice and counsel whenever they have questions about their studies and research.
The general entrance examination is held twice a year: once in the fall (September) and again in the spring (February). The Graduate School of Commerce also has other systems in place to open its doors broadly to all with a thirst for continued education. These include admission on a recommendation basis for graduating undergraduates with stellar academic records, an early admissions program for undergraduates completing their third year of enrollment in a Faculty of Commerce degree program, as well as on a special entrance examination basis for business people and foreign students.
What is more, we offer members of the general public opportunities for learning through credit-transfer and student-exchange programs with three other universities in the Kansai district and through the acceptance of Audit-for-Credit Student and Audit Students.
