On November 25, six members of Tamkang University, including President Flora Chia-I Chang, and Vice President for International Affairs (also Dean of the College of International Studies, Tamkang University) Wan-chin Tai, visited Doshisha University. They were welcomed by Doshisha University’s Director of the International Center Nobuyuki Yamauchi, Associate Director of the International Center Ri Choha, Director of the Center for Japanese Language and Culture Yoshimi Matsuura, and Administrative Director of the Office of the International Center Toru Nishioka.

Tamkang University is a comprehensive private university located in the northern part of Taiwan, and embraces three campuses: Tamsui Campus, Taipei Campus and Lanyang Campus. In addition, the university created the Cyber Campus which provides online courses, distance learning programs and other related courses by connecting the three campuses to the rest of the world. The College of Global Entrepreneurial Development on the Lanyang Campus is actively promoting the globalization of the university through innovative strategies such as offering more than 90% of the classes taught in English and obliging students to study abroad for a year.

Doshisha University concluded an agreement with Tamkang University in November 2009 to accept up to 15 students per year from the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Tamkang University who wish to study Japanese language and culture. In May 2010, both universities also signed a student exchange agreement, and currently a total of 16 students of Tamkang University are studying at Doshisha University.

At the meeting with the delegation, Dean of the College of Management Chu-ching Wang, and Dean of the College of International Studies Wan-chin Tai, expressed their desire to conclude agreements with individual faculties and graduate schools of Doshisha University in order to encourage further educational activities and research at both universities and promote international exchanges.

The meeting continued longer than scheduled in a friendly manner. After that, a luncheon organized and attended by the president of Doshisha University took place at Kanbaikan Building

In December this year, President Eiji Hatta and Director of the International Center Nobuyuki Yamauchi are visiting Tamkung University to attend the 1st Taiwan-Japan University Forum. We hope the visit will further strengthen ties and promote more exchanges between the two universities.
