Professor Takashi Osono (Faculty of Science and Engineering) Receives the Japanese Forest Society Award

On March 26, 2017, the 128th Annual JFS (Japanese Forest Society) Meeting was held in Kagoshima Prefecture, where Professor Takashi Osono of the Faculty of Science and Engineering received the Japanese Forest Society Award. The award is offered to researchers who make an outstanding achievement in the field of forest science, in particular, to those who make a valuable academic contribution. Professor Osono has conducted research concerning forest soil decomposition, and how fungi and bacteria decompose dead leaves. This particular part of his work has continued for 15 years and taken him around the world, from tropical to polar regions. Only limited studies have been conducted in this academic area. Four articles of the professor’s research outcomes had been highly commended for the award.
