Making an article open access means making the research result available to anyone for free, without restrictions imposed by publishers. Open access has a huge significance in the perspective that the research result will return to the public.
Recently, only a few people can read published articles. By making an article open access, everyone can read the article without restrictions, which will increase the citation score of the article.
Therefore, we support research activities that draw attention to the university’s research achievements and contribute to the academic community and the public, by encouraging researchers to submit articles to internationally renowned journals and to make the articles publicly available through open access.

We opened the call on Monday, May 8, 2023, and the budget for this academic year is decreasing. Please remember to apply if you have published an Open Access article that meets the following conditions.

1. Eligible Articles

Any article written by a full-time faculty member of the university as first author or corresponding author*1) and submitted to a high-impact (top 10%) open access journal*2).

*1)
In the case that research disciplines or journals require the order of authors to be alphabetical, etc., we will decide on the support if the application meets other conditions and the payment of APC by the applicant is confirmed.

*2)

Please refer to the attached material for how to confirm which journals are ranked in the top 10%.

2. Support Details

The lower amount between the article processing fee actually paid by the applicant or the upper amount of the suitable category below will be subsidized as research incentive expense*3).
[Category A] Top 5% journals: up to 500 thousand yen
[Category B] Top 10% journals: up to 250 thousand yen

*3)

Research Incentive Expense:
- Will be subsidized as a research expense.
- Please contact us if you have any inquiries regarding the range of expenses that can be implemented by this budget.
- The amount you receive as Research Incentive Expense can be carried over to the next year (one year only). The amount carried over from the previous year can be used in combination with the newly allocated amount.

3. How to Apply

Please apply via the form below within 3 months from the date of publication of the open access journal in which your article is published.
*There may be the case in which we can support publications of more than 3 months ago.
If you would like to apply with such an article, please contact the Department of Research Planning.

Application Form for the Research Incentive Expense of Open Access Publication

- If you have any inquiries regarding the remaining budget, please contact us at the bottom of this page.

This academic year only, we will support separately the articles posted on OA journals during the period stated below. The conditions for the support are the same as the above, except for the intended period.
Please apply at your earliest convenience, as this support is on a first-come, first-served basis.
[Intended period: From January 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023]
