Christmas at Doshisha

Christmas Illumination Lighting Ceremony

During the Advent season, as Christmas lights start to appear on trees and buildings across Japan, a lighting ceremony takes place at Doshisha University. A 23-meter-tall Himalayan Cedar, situated close to the West Gate on the Imadegawa Campus, is decorated with Christmas lights every year. It's the second tallest living Christmas tree in Japan, and has in recent years become one of Kyoto’s signature winter events.
