Korea University “Global Leadership Program 2023”

The Global Leadership Program, a short-term study abroad program of Korea University, one of the most prestigious private universities in South Korea, was held at Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus for about three weeks from January 29 to February 16, 2024, and 17 international students studied at our university.

In this program, Japanese language classes are thoroughly taught by faculty members of the Center for Japanese Language and Culture. There are many daily assignments, and every year many Korea University students have mastered the Japanese language and deepened their understanding of Japanese culture. And it's not just about the language. The program also includes various hands-on learning experiences that are only possible in Japan, such as a Zen meditation experience, and an aikido experience. One of the most attractive aspects of studying abroad is the chance to meet and interact with people. Many Doshisha students again participated in the program as supporters and study volunteers, assisting in classes, holding welcome and farewell parties, and making efforts to interact with the students on a daily basis. They helped the students with conversation practice and presentation preparation, and deepened their friendship with the international students by interacting with them as young people outside of the study program.

On the final day of the program, the participants gave presentations on themes related to Japan that they had chosen. The students prepared presentation materials and gave their presentations entirely in Japanese, and the results of their studies over the past three weeks were fully demonstrated in their presentations. The themes were very original, and we listened to them with great interest. The final event of the day was the completion ceremony. Everyone received their certificates with smiles and poses. After the ceremony, it was time for the last exchange before returning home. It was impressive to see the international students and our student supporters enjoying conversation in Japanese and regretting their separation. 3 weeks was a short period of time, but it seems that the students were able to build friendships and have a wonderful influence on each other. We sincerely hope that the students of Korea University and Doshisha University who participated in this program will continue to strengthen their friendship and become a bridge between Korea and Japan and the world.

OASupportReannounce20240201.png (84507)

Making an article open access means making the research result available to anyone for free, without restrictions imposed by publishers. Open access has a huge significance in the perspective that the research result will return to the public.
Recently, only a few people can read published articles. By making an article open access, everyone can read the article without restrictions, which will increase the citation score of the article.
Therefore, we support research activities that draw attention to the university’s research achievements and contribute to the academic community and the public, by encouraging researchers to submit articles to internationally renowned journals and to make the articles publicly available through open access.

We opened the call on Monday, May 8, 2023, and the budget for this academic year is decreasing. Please remember to apply if you have published an Open Access article that meets the following conditions.

2. Support Details

The lower amount between the article processing fee actually paid by the applicant or the upper amount of the suitable category below will be subsidized as research incentive expense*3).
[Category A] Top 5% journals: up to 500 thousand yen
[Category B] Top 10% journals: up to 250 thousand yen

*3)

Updated Oct. 25, 2022
On 16th October (Sun.), SIED held the “Nara Walking Tour” as a welcoming event around Nara Park in Nara prefecture. Ten international students and three local students participated in this event.
Touring historical heritages such as Todaiji and Kofukuji, we enjoyed ourselves interculturally.

At the beginning of the event, we introduced each other, surrounded by a lot of deer. Then, we went to Todaiji Nandaimon and saw Kongorikishizo, a pair of powerful statues. We also toured Todaiji Daibutsu-den, the great Buddha hall, and were amazed at the giant Daibutsu, Vairocana Buddha, and learned ancient Japanese history from exhibitions. Also, a few participants drew fortune.
After that, we went to Nara Park to feed crackers to deer and visited various souvenir shops on the street. Students seemed to enjoy the intercultural exchange.
It was a perfect day for walking, so we toured Nara Park relaxingly with chatting together in Japanese and also English. Some became friends and exchanged their contact info, they seemed to get along with students with different backgrounds.
During the fall semester, more and more international students came to Doshisha university and participated in SIED events. This event provided an enjoyable opportunity to get to know each other for both international students and local students.

SIED will plan various intercultural events, taking measures to prevent COVID-19. We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming events.
