Doshisha University Graduate School of Business invites applications for the following teaching post:

Field Corporate Strategy
Modules to be taught Corporate Strategy and 1 or 2 of the following subjects: Marketing Strategy, Japanese Style Management, Environmental Management, and Medium and Small Business Management.

*1 The list of publications need not be confined to academic works. Articles, lectures and any other materials reflecting the applicant’s professional expertise in the relevant field are accepted.

Qualifications
(1) Applicants should qualify under either (A) or (B):
 
(A) Applicants with extensive practical business experience within the field of corporate strategy. Masters degree holders preferred.
(B) Holders of either a doctoral degree or equivalent ability and demonstrable research output.
(2) Applicants should have the ability to teach in a professional graduate school and be keenly interested in business education.
(3) All nationalities are welcome provided applicants do not have difficulty in conducting lectures in both Japanese and English.
(4) Applicants who have experience teaching abroad would be preferred.
Application deadline Applications should reach us no later than Monday, August 24, 2009.
Selection procedures

The selection process will be carried out under the following conditions.

(1) Initial screening will be based on the application materials.
(2) Shortlisted applicants will be invited to give a short seminar or a trial course lecture based on the course outline as proposed in the foregoing item 6 (3) followed by an interview. This procedure will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
* Applicants are expected to cover the cost of their own travel expenses.
Successful applicants will be notified by letter.

Other matters
(1) In principle, documents submitted by the applicants will not be returned. All materials will be carefully stored and handled during the selection procedure and promptly destroyed once selection is completed. Applicants who wish to have books and other publications returned to them should provide stamped envelopes or courier waybills (payable by receiver).

One Limited-Contract Teaching Position
Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Studies, Doshisha University

    The Department of Sociology of Doshisha University, located in Kyoto, will have one opening for a faculty member on a five-year limited contract, beginning in April 2010.

Position Assistant Professor, Associate Professor depending on qualifications
Field Sociology or Anthropology
Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to teach the following undergraduate courses.

1) Courses:
  Special Topics in Sociology III: A lecture conducted in English
Methods in Sociology A or B: A fundamentals class on social surveys conducted in Japanese
Seminars in Sociology: Seminars conducted mainly in English
Supervision of Graduation Theses
2) Teaching load: The successful applicant’s basic teaching load will be four (4) 90-minute classes per week each Spring and Autumn Semester
3) Administrative responsibilities: Participation in designated committees, invigilation and entrance examination duties.
Qualifications and Application conditions (All of the following must be satisfied)
1) English as a principal language: the successful applicant should be able to teach the above courses mainly in English, and have sufficient Japanese proficiency to supervise students and carry out administrative tasks
2) Academic publications based on social survey research (either quantitative or qualitative)
3) A Ph. D, or the equivalent in experience and academic publications
4) Resident of the Kinki area of Japan during the contract period
Deadline for application Application materials must be post-marked no later than Tuesday, August 25, 2009, via registered mail (kakitome) or commercial parcel delivery (takuhaibin).
Contract Period From April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2015 or (by mutual agreement) October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2015. The five (5) year contract is nonrenewable, and the successful applicant will not be eligible for promotion.
Application materials First Screening (Documentation Screening: Applicants will be notified of results by mid-October)
1) Curriculum vitae (Please include educational background, teaching experience and academic publications. Refereed articles should be clearly indicated. Also include a 5x6 cm size photo of the applicant.)
2)  One offprint/copy of each of three academic publications that represent the applicant’s academic expertise.
3) A summary in Japanese (about 400 characters (ji)) of each of the above three publications
4)  A research proposal, in Japanese (about 1,000 characters), outlining planned research during the period of employment at Doshisha University
5) Statement in Japanese (about 600 characters) explaining your personal philosophy/comments regarding teaching methods
          
Interview (to be held in mid-October) Applicants who pass the first screening will be invited to attend an interview at the Imadegawa Campus of Doshisha University, Kyoto. Transportation expenses, etc., will be borne by the applicant.

Candidates will be directly notified of the results upon completion of the screening and interviewing process. Please provide an e-mail address at which the applicant can be contacted at all times.
NB Should the applicant wish to have application materials returned, please provide an addressed envelope with the correct amount of postage attached.
After receipt of initial application materials, requests may be made for additional items.
We may request to see the original degree certificates/diplomas.
