Limited-Term Contract Full-Time Researcher at the International Institute of American Studies, Doshisha University

1. Research Field:

2. Responsibilities:
(1)
Coordinating all related administrative works at the International Institute of American Studies and focusing on the following duties:
  • To support all the joint research projects (Bumon-Kenkyu) and other academic activities sponsored by the International Institute of American Studies
  • To improve the collection of academic materials at the International Institute of American Studies
  • To support the editorial board of Doshisha American Studies

To make contributions to the research projects that the International Institute of American Studies promotes
(3)
To pursue original independent researches and publish outcomes
(4)
To make contributions to the promotion of international collaboration
(5)
To engage in all other duties under the mandate of Doshisha University (such as the duties for the university’s entrance examinations)

3. Number of openings:
1 (Assistant Professor on a four-year nonrenewable contract)

4. Contract Period:
From April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2026 (nonrenewable)

5. Qualifications
(1)
Ph.D.degree or equivalent qualification in American Studies
(2)
Academic achievement is based on the American Studies issue and has been enrolled in the doctoral course of the graduate school for 3 years or more, or has an equivalent background
(3)
Publications in refereed academic journals
(4)
Excellent proficiency in both Japanese and English

September 16, 2021 (Japan-time by post)

Curriculum Vitae[Excel 27KB], lists of major academic publications[Excel 27KB], and the resume of working history in Doshisha[Excel 17KB] (If you have been previously employed by Doshisha).

Brief description of Research history and a research proposal, each in Japanese and English (paper size must be A4 or letter size, maximum 3 pages)

Two recommendation letters

Those who have passed the document screening stated above will be asked to submit his/her major publications (no more than 5 publications, 3 copies of each publication). The submission date will be notified to the relevant person from late September to early October.

Those who have passed the document screening stated above may be asked to submit the official certificate of the most recent degree you received in your academic background.

10. Other
After the document screening, interviews will be conducted in person (or online) from October to November. The shortlisted applicant will be examined and interviewed.
The final decision of hiring will be made between mid-December and mid-January.

11. Note
All submitted documents will not be returned except for the original copy of his/her major publications. (Copies will not be returned in principle.)
For the publications to be returned, please enclose a self-addressed envelope or parcel with a cash-on-delivery slip and a message that you wish the publication to be returned.
All personal documents will be retained by the International Institute of American Studies, and will be safely disposed after the screening process. Personal information will not be used for purposes other than the one here stated according to the Protection of Personal Information Law in Japan.
