The Goldstein-Goren Department of Jewish Thought at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev


The lecture will examine the modern encounters between scholars of Jewish mysticism and Zen-Buddhism, and the comparative studies of the Jewish and Japanese teachings and practices that were categorized as forms of mysticism. The lecture will also discuss the modern Japanese and Jewish constructions of Jewish mysticism and Zen Buddhism, and the orientalist and national contexts of these constructions, which underlie the modern encounters between these traditions, and their comparative studies.
