April 17, 2020 update

Our website had separate “To Freshman” and “To Current Students” pages, but from today, all information the University provides for students will be available on To All Current Students page. Be sure to check this page, together with the original website of your faculty/graduate school, on a regular basis.
The 2020 Academic Year Undergraduate and Graduate School Convocation Ceremony have been cancelled due to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the dates/times and content of some orientations and explanatory meetings may need to be changed. This page lists information that freshman students will need to know before and after the start of the new academic year and starting their studies. Please be sure to check the information on this page.

10, 2020 update

【Notices】Lectures in the spring semester beginning on May 12
In light of the spread of infection with the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Japanese government has declared a state of emergency, and the Kyoto Prefectural Government has requested its citizens to refrain from going outdoors for non-essential purposes and from traveling to the seven prefectures under the state of emergency. In response, we at Doshisha University have decided that Beginning on May 12 (Tues.), lectures in the spring semester will be provided by online distribution (e.g., interactive online lectures, motion video distribution, and document distribution), as a general rule. Details will be announced later. Until May 11, students will continue to work alternative studies. Detailed information will be provided by the class faculty using DUET “Message”. Please check DUET “Message” regularly.

~Before Start of Academic Year (to March 31)

1.Check your student ID

Before the start of the academic year on April 1, you must check your student ID. Please check your student ID
by clicking on the following link, “Student ID Confirmation System”.
New undergraduate students can check their student ID from 10:00 on March 28 (Sat).New graduate students can check their ID from 10:00 on March 24 (Tue).

2.Pick up student ID card and user ID notification and submit documentation

Before you begin your studies, you will need to pick up your student ID card and user ID notification. This is important information you will need to register for courses and use services and systems inside and outside the university. The date and location where you can receive them will vary depending on your faculty/school or graduate school. This information will be announced on each faculty/school or graduate school’s page as it becomes available. Please check the information below. You will need your student ID to receive these documents. Be sure to check your student ID at the “Student ID Confirmation System” link above.

In addition, the university will collect documents from you at the time you receive your student ID card and user ID notification (certificate of graduation, certificate of items stated in resident register, guarantor notification, address notification, etc.). Please fill out all of these documents with your student ID in advance and submit them when you pick up your student ID card. For documents that do not have a field to enter your student ID, please write your student ID in the upper righthand corner.

If you feel unwell or the 14-day self-quarantine period has not passed since you have returned from overseas to Japan, please do not come to the university. If you are unable to come to school, we can send your student ID card and other documents. Please contact your faculty/school or graduate school office for more information.

3.Course guidance

Before the start of the class period, you need to select the courses you want to take, register, and create a timetable. When choosing courses, it is important that you first know the curriculum of the faculty / graduate school you have entered, the types of courses, and how to register for courses through the course guidance provided by the faculty / graduate school. Information will be posted as it becomes available.

4.Course registration

To register for courses, please log in to Learning support system DUET, with your user ID and password indicated on your user ID notification that will be provided to you along with your student ID card. You can check required materials, such as “Program Guides” and “Course Registration Materials” for each faculty/school and graduate school via the “Program Guides/Course Registration Materials” page below. You can also check materials for courses other than those specific to your faculty/school or graduate school, such as university-wide courses for liberal arts education and those related to licensing and qualifications. Please be sure to check out this information if you wish to take such courses.
Regarding course registration, some content may change as a measure to prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please try to collect information individually.
In particular, among the course registration schedules, the regular registration schedule has changed significantly as of April 1. Please be sure to check. Advanced registration schedule and Advanced registration guidelines will be updated as necessary from April 2.

5.Studies from April 7 to the start of in-class lectures

Classes will start on April 7 (Tue) (Law School will start on April 6 (Mon) and the Graduate School of Business will start on April 8 (Wed)). As of March 25, from the perspective of preventing the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), we had announced that in-class lectures (including lectures in labs, offices, etc.) would start on April 21 (Tuesday). However, in response to the possibility of a cluster in Kyoto City on March 29 (Sun), Kyoto City made an urgent request to universities in the city to prevent the spread of infection. As a result, it has been decided on April 1 that the start of in-class lectures (including lectures in labs, offices, etc.) will be postponed to Tuesday, May 12. Until in-class lectures start, students will have the opportunity to start alternative studies. Detailed information will be provided by the class faculty using DUET “Message”. Please check DUET “Message” regularly.
