On July 2nd (Thu), SIED hosted an event, “Wagashi KITCHEN ~Mitarashi-dango~” at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa Campus. “Wagashi KITCHEN” is one of the SIED’s popular events. Wagashi means Japanese sweets and you can learn Japanese culture through making it. This time, 9 international students and 2 local students joined this event.
The event started with the presentation about Japanese summer. Since it was the beginning of the July, we introduced Tanabata and Mitarashi Festival held in two shrines near the university. Everyone seemed to have fun on the quiz about Mitarashi-dango.
After the presentation, participants started to make Mitarashi-dango. Being divided into three groups, each made 5 dumplings for themselves. They seemed to struggle but having fun when forming the ball with the dough. When making a sauce, all groups did great on adjusting the heat that the sauce looked so good. At last, participants enjoyed eating Mitarashi-dango with plenty of sweet soy sauce. The whole event was filled with good atmosphere and some of the participants told us, “It was yummy!”, “It became a good memory.” We hope that they were able to learn Japanese culture and enjoy conversation through this event.
SIED will keep on holding various kinds of event throughout the year. Please feel free to come and join us!
