Doshisha University Action in Response to Novel Coronavirus Infection (No. 7 Notice)

In light of the spread of infection with the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Japanese government has declared a state of emergency, and the Kyoto Prefectural Government has requested its citizens to refrain from going outdoors for non-essential purposes and from traveling to the seven prefectures under the state of emergency. In response, we at Doshisha University have decided to take the measures noted below and determined the form of lectures (instruction) beginning on May 12.

We ask for your understanding of the reasons behind our implementation of these measures and your cooperation with them.

Measures, etc.

1. Measures to be implemented
(1)
Restriction of entry into the university campuses
During the period in question, we shall limit the gates through which passage will be permitted on all Doshisha campuses and prohibit students (including non-degree students, auditors, and students of other statuses) from entering, as a general rule.
*
In cases in which entry is both necessary and urgently needed, we shall permit entry by the smallest requisite number of students. In such cases, please obtain advance permission from the dean of the faculty or graduate school to which you belong, and fill out the prescribed form on the nature of your business, scope of action, and other items at the gate when you enter the campus.

(2)
Closure of university counters (including those in the library)
We shall close all the counters in the university, including those in the facilities whose operation is already temporarily suspended.
*
Although the counters will be closed, inquiries etc. will be accepted by e-mail and telephone.

Period for access restriction & counter closure
  • April 13 (Mon.) – May 11 (Mon.), 2020

2. Policy on the form of lectures beginning on May 12
In “Doshisha University Action in Response to Novel Coronavirus Infection (No. 6 Notice),”we informed you that in-class lectures (including lectures in labs, offices, etc.) would begin on May 12 (Tues.). We have since determined policy on the form of lectures beginning on May 12, as follows.
*
The Division of Academic Affairs will provide information on detailed items through the university website.

(Policy on the form of lectures beginning on May 12)
Beginning on May 12 (Tues.), lectures in the spring semester will be provided by online distribution (e.g., interactive online lectures, motion video distribution, and document distribution), as a general rule. For lectures requiring the use of university facilities, apparatus, or equipment, however, a separate examination will be made of other methods of implementation.
