Updated May 21, 2020
To all students
On May 14 (Thurs.), the Japanese government lifted the state of emergency it had declared in April for five of the prefectures it had designated as "special alert prefectures" and 34 that had not been so designated. This was followed on May 21 by a review of the situation in the eight remaining prefectures including Kyoto Prefecture and the decision to lift the state of emergency in the three prefectures of Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto.
Even in prefectures where the state of emergency has been lifted, it is necessary to continue preventing the spread of infection with the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), by applying the ”Example of practicing New Lifestyle" indicated by the Novel Coronavirus Expert Meeting. In view of this requirement, it is of vital importance to return Doshisha University campuses to their pre-Covid situation in a phased manner, while continuing with efforts to prevent the spread of infection. We have therefore determined the courses of action noted below.
To support your learning going forward as well, we are going to make reviews of the situation as necessary, and ask for your continued understanding and cooperation.

Action
1.Items for relaxation relative to the current status
1)Entry into campuses by students
Even with the arrival of June 1 (Mon.), we shall apply a policy based on continuation of restrictions on student entry into campuses. To curtail non-essential entry by university-related personnel and other people, we shall limit the gates that will be open on all campuses. However, restrictions shall be relaxed somewhat for entry for the reasons related below.
It may also be noted that the risk of infection increases during the movement accompanying campus entry. In particular, if you use public transportation to come to the university, please take action to prevent infection by avoiding the commuting hours, etc.
Please note that the restrictions on entry into campuses are subject to change based on national policy, requests from Kyoto Prefectural Government, the situation as regards infection in Japan as a whole and Kyoto Prefecture, and other factors.
* Reasons for which entry is permitted
(1)Entry for research guidance or experiments/practical training
Thus far, entry has been permitted for requisite matters such as maintenance of experimenting facilities. Beginning on June 1 (Mon.), the university shall also permit entry for receiving research guidance needed to submit the results of research on dissertations for doctoral or master’s degrees, or specific topics equivalent to dissertations for master's degrees, as well as for the performance by graduate students of experiments and practical training for which the use of university facilities, apparatus, or equipment is indispensable.
In light of the purpose behind the measures restricting entry, please limit the number of persons entering to the smallest requisite number, obtain advance permission from the dean of the faculty or graduate school to which you belong, and fill out the prescribed form (campus entrance notification) on the nature of your business, scope of action, and other items at the gate when you enter the campus.
(2)Entry related to use of computer classrooms, libraries on both campuses, and certificate issuing machines
Beginning on May 25 (Mon.), we shall permit entry into campuses in the cases outlined below. In any of these cases, please fill out the prescribed form (campus entrance notification) on the nature of your business, scope of action, and other items at the gate when you enter the campus.
A.Use of computer classrooms and libraries on both campuses under the conditions established for each
* Operation only of the certificate issuance machines installed at the above places
