Report: "Let’s remake snack packages!" (presented by SIED)

Updated Jul. 5, 2021
On June 23 (wed.), SIED hosted an event,"Let's remake snack packages!" at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa Campus and 12 people participated! This event was held with the aim of deepening the understanding of Japanese snack culture and promoting international exchange through remaking the goods using Japanese snack packages.
Before making the goods, SIED staff introduced the history and trivia of Japanese snacks using PowerPoint slides. In the presentation, it started from the history of the Morinaga Milk Caramel, the price of one caramel in the past, and what Morinaga wished in the milk caramel package and so on, which might be new to not only international students but also local students. We also had a Japanese snack quiz and shared a fun moment!
After we learned about Japanese snack history and trivia, we started a crafting. At this event, we created two types of goods, a pouch using a package of "Kuppy Ramune" and a ring notebook using a package of "HAPPY TURN" or "Morinaga Milk Caramel", and participants were able to use a spangle and masking tape to create original and cute goods! While making it, there was conversation between participants in a friendly atmosphere. In the survey we took after the event, almost all said that they were satisfied with the event, and many people left the positive comments, like "I was able to make a new friend", "It was very fun."
We hope all participants had a wonderful experience through our event. It has been a long time to hold a face-to-face event since the State of Emergency had been continued. Seeing their smiles, it was a precious time to thank for intercultural exchange. We will host many other intercultural events throughout the year with caution to prevent COVID-19 infection, so don't miss them!
