Japanese Government Scholarship Program
For international students applying for the Japanese Government Scholarship Program
(Post-graduate level students recommended by a Japanese Embassy / Research Students)
In most cases, the initial status of international students admitted to Doshisha University is that of ‘Special Student’ (Research Student). If such students wish to obtain a degree from Doshisha University, they need to take an examination to change their status from Special Student to Regular Student after arriving in Japan. To avoid disappointment after enrollment, it is suggested that international students who wish to study at Doshisha University collect sufficient information about the university in advance, such as whether there is a faculty or a graduate school suitable for their study goal or research plan, or to which graduate school the professor under whom they wish to study is affiliated. For international students receiving the Japanese government scholarship who are required to take Japanese language training prior to being placed in a university, Doshisha University offers a special program to learn the Japanese language and culture at the Center for Global Education and Japanese Studies, which is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a designated Japanese Language Training Institution.
