On August 27, I attended the completion ceremony for the Doshisha University Library.

The former library on the Imadegawa Campus was completed in 1973 and supported the university’s educational and research activities for approximately 50 years. In 2020, it was decided to rebuild the library as part of the Doshisha 150th Anniversary Commemorative Project (University Construction Project), and demolition work began in October 2023. We are pleased to have successfully held the completion ceremony.

Following the ceremony, a preview tour was held for those involved in the project.
Although furniture and books have not yet been moved in, they will be brought in gradually, and the library is scheduled to open in early November of this year.

I believe that interacting with books in the library—and encountering not only the specific materials they seek but also a wealth of “knowledge”—is crucial for guiding students toward new avenues of learning.

I hope this new library will serve as a gateway leading students into new worlds.
