Attended the 5th Judicial Roundtable on the Future of Justice
On September 20, the 5th Judicial Roundtable on the Future of Justice was held in the Large Conference Room on the 6th floor of Kambai-kan at Doshisha University’s Imadegawa Campus. Fifty-one participants attended, including chief justices, Supreme Court justices, and judicial experts from around the world.
At the start of the conference, I delivered opening remarks as the host university’s president. In my remarks, I highlighted the history of Kyoto and Doshisha, emphasizing the importance of the convergence of tradition and innovation, the meeting of diverse values, and the need to tackle the challenges of our time, while extending a warm welcome to attendees.
Professor Naoshi Takasugi of the Department of Law in the Faculty of Law has led the practical arrangements for the Judicial Roundtable, and students and alumni from the Graduate School of Law have also assisted with conference operations.
Bringing world-class legal professionals to our university to engage in dialogue on the diverse themes facing our society is a meaningful opportunity for the legal and academic communities in Japan and around the world. The 5th Judicial Roundtable Conference will continue through September 23, and I hope all sessions will prove fruitful.
