Attended the Shinmachi Chapel Dedication Service
With the opening of a new chapel on the Shinmachi Campus, we held a dedication service on October 1.
The dedication service was presided over by the Professor Yamashita, director of the Center for Christian Culture, and I delivered an address. In my address, I noted that in a rapidly changing society, we need time and space to reflect on our own way of being, and that our university’s activities, such as Chapel Hour, provide such opportunities.
In addition, Vice President Kihara delivered an encouraging message titled “Shinmachi, Too, ‘Takes Christian Principles as the Foundation of Moral Education.’”
Deans of the Faculty of Sociology and the Faculty of Policy Studies—both based at the Shinmachi Campus—as well as other faculty and staff members participated in the service, joining the student choir in singing hymns and offering prayers.
Starting in the fall semester, Chapel Hours will also be held regularly at the Shinmachi Chapel. I hope that, at our university grounded in Christian principles, this space will become a place where students can engage with diverse perspectives and reflect on them.
