Installation of Doshisha University Original-Design Manhole Covers
We have installed a total of four original-design manhole covers—two at each of the Imadegawa and Kyotanabe campuses—and held an unveiling ceremony at the Imadegawa campus on October 16.
These original manhole covers were designed by TAK JAPAN Co., Ltd. and manufactured by Hokusei Industry Co., Ltd.
Mr. Takumi Adachi, CEO of TAK JAPAN Co., Ltd. (2020 graduate of the Faculty of Commerce), and Mr. Hideharu Kitayama, CEO of Hokusei Industry Co., Ltd. (1976 graduate of the Faculty of Commerce), attended the unveiling ceremony.
The two manhole covers at the Imadegawa Campus feature designs centered on the Clark Memorial Hall—a designated Important Cultural Property—and include scenes symbolic of Kyoto, the circular rose window of the chapel, and a Himalayan cedar Christmas tree, all of which express the charm and traditions of our university that thrive in Kyoto.
The two manhole covers at the Kyotanabe Campus feature the Larned Memorial Library as the centerpiece, incorporating various sports motifs to express the vibrant student life where learning and sports coexist.
The installation of these original manhole covers was made possible through the cooperation of our alumni. We would like to express our deepest gratitude once again.
If you visit the campus, please be sure to look for these original manhole covers.
