Report: “Let's go to Takagamine to see the autumn leaves!” (presented by SIED)

Updated Dec. 12, 2022
Hello, we're SIED!

On December 4th (Sun.), SIED held an event "Let's go to Takagamine to see the autumn leaves!" at Takagamine, which is in North ward of Kyoto City. In this event, we enjoyed international exchange at Genkoan, a venerable temple in Takagamine, observing historical buildings such as windows of enlightenment, lost windows, and blood ceilings along with the scenery of autumn leaves.

After we first finished introducing ourselves in front of Genkoan, we entered the temple and looked at the beautiful autumn leaves. There were still many leaves on trees, and we also saw beautiful red leaves carpet on the ground. After that, explaining the window of enlightenment and the window of hesitation, we were able to enjoy the view of fantastical autumn leaves from the window and learn the spirit of Zen. We learned about Japanese history by listening to stories about the blood ceiling.
Participants were overwhelmed by the blood ceiling while learning history. We enjoyed interaction with the participants while freely viewing the inside of the building.

Although the weather was a little cloudy, we were able to relax and walk around Takagamine while talking in English and Japanese. Participants exchanged contact information with each other after the event, and they also went out to eat together. It seems that they were able to deepen their interaction with each other through different departments, grades, and courses.

Looking at the autumn leaves of Takagamine, It was a great event for both foreign students and local students to feel each other!
SIED will plan various intercultural events, taking measures to prevent COVID-19. We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming events.
