The Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT, Bard, BingAI, etc.) in Learning

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) generates new sentences, images, and sounds based on machine learning algorithms. For sentence generation, text data collected from the Internet is used to generate new sentences by statistically predicting the next word in a word sequence or sentence using a large language model (LLM) that has accumulated a large number of conversation samples with paired questions and answers. The model generates new sentences through statistical prediction.

Precautions for use

In order to use Generated AI effectively, it is essential to acquire expert knowledge to judge the accuracy of the generated answers, and to have the ability to critically analyze and revise the answers that the algorithm produces.

In addition, easy use of the generated AI will hinder your acquisition of knowledge, your ability to think logically, and your creativity and originality.

When using the AI in your university studies, please keep the following points in mind and follow the directions of the instructor in charge of your class(es).

1.
Since the training data accumulated in LLM was collected without the permission of the original author, use of answers generated from such data may infringe on the copyrights, portrait rights, and other intellectual property rights of third parties.

2.
Depending on the instructions, discriminatory, defamatory, offensive, or excessively violent responses may be generated that offend public order and morals, and use of such responses may constitute an illegal act.

3.
Inputting information into the generated AI or using the generated answers may be an illegal act that may leak confidential information or personal information of oneself or others, or violate privacy.

4.
The training data stored in LLM may contain bias, reflecting hurtful cultural, racial, or national intentions, and in this way the generated answers may be socially inappropriate or even toxic or racist in nature.

5.
By its nature, GAI statistically predicts combinations of word sequences, so it rarely generates "I don't know" answers. For this reason these machine learning algorithms may generate answers using non-factual content disguised as factual.
