On Friday, November 25, 2022, DoshishaWeek 2022 was held at the “Kai-no-Ma” of the Kambaikan Hall on the Imadegawa Campus as a joint event between the University of Tübingen (UT) and the Doshisha University (DU).

This year's event focused on "student and cultural exchange," and with the cooperation of the DU Calligraphy Club and the Department of Japanese Studies at the UT, it was an opportunity to introduce Japanese calligraphy culture and to mutually understand the different characteristics of Japanese calligraphy from Western calligraphy.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Doshisha Week had been held only online in recent years, but in 2022, keynote speeches, research presentations, workshops, and exhibits of works were held in person at each university, while the event was broadcast live online. A total of more than 90 people, including student administrative staff and other related personnel, participated in the event.

The opening ceremony began with a greeting by Prof. Yoshihiko Wada, Director of Doshisha EU Campus Office, followed by a keynote lecture by Mr. Taiho Konishi, a calligrapher and lecturer of the DU calligraphy club, and a research presentation by Dr. Karin von Moser Filseck from UT's International Research Division, who shared an overview of calligraphy knowledge.

In the calligraphy workshop in the latter half of the program, in addition to the guidance by members of DU's calligraphy club, students participating in the 2022 German Language and Intercultural Studies EU Campus Program provided German / Japanese interpretation. This led to active exchange among the students.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Monika Schrimpf, Chair of the Department of Japanese Studies at UT, and Prof. Masaya Shimokusu, Director of Doshisha Student Support Services Center, delivered closing remarks, and a commemorative photo of the participants was taken, bringing the event to a festive conclusion.
