[Research News] Promoting Communication in English Among Students Learning English as a Foreign Language

Apr.20,2026 Update

In classrooms teaching English as foreign language, a supportive environment improves learners’ psychological motivation and willingness to communicate

Students learning English as a foreign language are often hesitant to communicate, which can delay the achievement of their learning goals. Professor Yoshiyuki Nakata and his research group have found that classroom support from teachers, peers, and learners themselves plays a crucial role in enhancing learners’ willingness to communicate in English. Their study further provides actionable insights into meeting learners’ psychological needs and creating supportive classroom environments, thereby promoting more effective English language learning.
