Consideration regarding infectious diseases

In accordance with the School Health and Safety Act and the Enforcement Regulations of the School Health and Safety Act, Doshisha University suspends students who have contracted, or are suspected of having contracted, any of the “Infectious Diseases Prevented in School” from attending classes in order to prevent the spread of infection on campus.
The term “Infectious Diseases Prevented in School” (School Infectious Diseases) refers to the infectious diseases prescribed in Article 18 of the Enforcement Regulations of the School Health and Safety Act, as listed below.
School Infectious Diseases and Attendance Suspension Standards under the School Health and Safety Act 
By following the designated procedures below, students who miss classes or examinations due to infection with such diseases will be given appropriate consideration and will not be placed at an academic disadvantage.
Please note that attendance suspension is imposed solely to prevent the spread of infection on campus. Therefore, if a student is unable to participate in classes that can be taken remotely from home or elsewhere and do not require attendance on campus, including online classes, the handling of such absences will be left to the discretion of the course instructor, in the same manner as an ordinary Report of Absence.

1. If you were absent from a class
   Obtain a medical certificate (which must indicate the attendance suspension period) or the prescribed “Certificate of Diagnosis: Infectious Diseases Prevented in School” below from the medical institution where you received your diagnosis, and submit it together with the Report of Absence Due to Infection with a School Infectious Disease to your lecturer at the next class session (photocopies of the medical certificate or certificate are also accepted).
   The Report of Absence Due to Infection with a School Infectious Disease is available at your faculty office.
2. If you were absent from an examination
   Obtain a medical certificate (which must indicate the attendance suspension period) or the prescribed “Certificate of Diagnosis: Infectious Diseases Prevented in School” below from the medical institution where you received your diagnosis, contact the office of your affiliated faculty or graduate school within the designated period, and follow the instructions provided.
   For details regarding makeup examinations, please refer to the Examination Types and Notes. Also regarding report submission deadlines and related matters, be sure to contact the above office by the applicable deadline and follow the instructions provided.

※When submitting the Report of Absence Due to Infection with a School Infectious Disease or the Application for Makeup Examination, you may attach either a medical certificate issued by a medical institution or the Certificate of Diagnosis: Infectious Diseases Prevented in School.If you have not recovered by the end of the attendance suspension period specified at the time of diagnosis, or if there is a possibility that the attendance suspension period may need to be revised, you must visit a medical institution again and obtain a new medical certificate or Certificate of Diagnosis: Infectious Diseases Prevented in School indicating the revised attendance suspension period.
