2026 German Language and Intercultural Studies EU Campus Program Comes to a Successful Close

The 2026 German Language and Intercultural Studies EU Campus Program in Tübingen, Germany, has come to a successful close, with all 15 participating students returning to Japan. The program took place from March 10 to August 6, with students from eight faculties at Doshisha University: Letters, Global and Regional Studies, Theology, Economics, Sociology, Law, Policy Studies, and Psychology.

Although the students’ departure for Germany was delayed due to the situation in the Middle East, it was possible to begin the program as planned with the generous support and flexibility of the University of Tübingen. At the welcome ceremony on March 11, President Prof. Dr. Karla Pollmann welcomed the students and offered an inspiring message to mark the start of their study abroad experience.

As in previous years, the students first spent five weeks focusing intensively on German in an exclusive course. They then joined German-language courses at the University of Tübingen, studying alongside international students from around the world.

The program also included field trips to sites such as Ulm Minster, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the House of History in Stuttgart, and Meersburg Castle. Through these visits, as well as visits to a local elementary school and a bakery, students explored German and European history, politics, religion, society, and culture from a range of perspectives.

In addition, two courses taught in Japanese by Doshisha faculty member and Doshisha Fellow allowed students to explore specialized topics in greater depth. Tandem partners from the University of Tübingen’s Japanese Studies also supported the students in their academic and everyday lives, creating opportunities for meaningful intercultural exchange.
